The on-going issue of plastics in our oceans and waterways is a major concern for us all. Each year, millions of tonnes of litter end up in the world’s marine ecosystems, which is why Covestro CEO Patrick Thomas wants to bring attention to a stewardship program called Operation Clean Sweep (OCS), to promote the industry’s commitment to, and leadership in, environmental responsibility.
OCS aims at implementing best housekeeping and containment practices in every plastic production, processing and handling operation, which will result in zero pellet loss to the environment. When plastic pellets are handled responsibly, everyone benefits. Pellets are kept out of our waterways and oceans, companies are viewed as good stewards of the environment and efficiencies are improved due to less waste.
